and i'm michelle griego. tis 6-- we begin with san francisc's super bowl hopes. the n-f-l will announce todf the city is in the running o host the event. good morning, everyone. it is 6:00 and the nfl will announce today if san francisco is in the running to host a super bowl. >> reporter: we are not just talking about any super bowl. san francisco wants to host super bowl 50, a huge anniversary for the nfl that would include more than a week of events and celebrations. this is how this would work out. all the festivities would happen in san francisco. the actual game at the new 49ers stadium would be 40 miles down the road in santa clara. it's expected to open in 2014 and a stadium has to exist for two seasons to host the super bowl. san francisco is hoping to bid

ant 2016 and 2017 games. the only super bowl in the bay area was in 1985 at stanford. the mayor submitted the application back in august and this is what's next. today nfl will announce which cities are in the running. if san francisco is one of them, it will host a plan on may 7th of next year. two weeks later the city will make a presentation to the 32 nfl owners. just to give you an idea, hosting a super bowl is expensive, about $25 million. san francisco wants to be part of the 50th and electricity reand say they can handle that type of celebration. the game would happen here in santa clara.

and taken to the hospital. appears the suspect got away. no word on what led to that shooting. there was another shooting on the 10 # 0 block of 7th street. no word on possible suspects or a motive. investigators are trying to figure out who shot and killed two people yesterday evening in an area between pittsburgh and antioch. the man was declared dead at the scene and a woman later died at the hospital. a string of suspicious fires began in september and saturday night investigators staking out the area caught a

woman setting a large garbage can on fire. that was the 11th fire in 18 days in that area. last night trains headed to the east bay area were stalled because of a man in the tube and stations got crowded quickly. >> somebody's gotten into the tube and they had to stop trains. >> police took a train in the tube, found the man and he was arrested. the ordeal took about an hour before trains were up and running again. about 15 minutes ago there was a 3.0 quake near the geysers. so far no one reported feeling the quake. again, 3.0, you can sometimes feel those.

accident, westbound 80 with a five-car accident and one lane blocked. you can see it slowing now through hercules. we have a couple advisories so give yourself extra time this morning. once again, that drive time even though we have the accident is only 21 minutes but could start to back up. back to you. a dispute is getting more heated in san jose between councilman rose herrera and the police young, accusing police of deliberately delaying response time in retaliation. the police union went to court to stop the measure with pension cuts from going into effect. >> they have been trying to scare the residents, really upping it in august and

the skyway down to the valley road, five-car crash blocking one lane. once you get past this, it looks okay towards richmond and berkeley. this is now to 22 minutes, a bit of a delay but not too bad yet. a lot of the brake lights now through livermore toward the dublin interchange. marin county, a live look at the golden gate bridge, you can see the fog this morning. notice it's pretty thick this morning all the way to doyle drive and across the span. we could see flight delays later this morning but for now

pretty much okay on the 101. we are all hoping for sunshine later this afternoon. we are going to get that. i just checked. we are getting delays at sfo over and hour on arriving flights because of the low clouds and fog moving on shore. if you're headed out, watch out for that foggy start to the day. by the afternoon we clear out nicely and warmer temperatures for most of the bay area. this is the begin of much warmer weather with offshore winds expected this week. high pressure is beginning to build in, a weak system beginning to move north. we are going to stay high and dry with that high pressure ridge building in. delays this morning, be prepared and mostly sunny heading in for the afternoon, 59 and partly cloudy in chicago

and rain and thunderstorm in new york. east bay temperatures are in the mid-80s, and about 80 in the napa valley. next couple days we'll start to heat things up, 90s by wednesday an thursday, even 70s out to the coastline. look like the sea breeze returns, cooler temperatures expected next weekend. >> thank you. looks great. >> space shuttle endeavour finally rolled in yesterday 17 hours tardy to the california science center. >> it took more than two days to inch across miles of road and it was quite the journey. >> reporter: it was, fashionably late, now sitting here in all its glory.

you can see crews working to secure it, working on the fourth side of the hangar. it will soon be completely enclosed. the shuttle is looking comfortable here now but getting it here over the weekend was quite the ordeal. crowds cheered as the spacecraft faced delay after delay. the shuttle halted when the aircraft carrying it slowed during last minute maneuvers to avoid trees and utility poles. dozen os onlookers were treated for heat related injuries but there were no arrests. when the shuttle pulled up yesterday, more than 17 hours late, officials say even with the delays they believe the move will fall within the projected $10 million budget. while it may have moved slowly, it did so safely.

look like but sources say it would be situated on the outer edge of piers 31 and 32. the idea is to make the arena appear smaller and create a sense of open space. tough start for the giants last night, losing to the cardinals. >> reporter: we do know that the giants put up a good fight last night. unfortunately it wasn't the day for bay area sports. cardinals took a six-run lead but the giants charged back with four in the bottom of the fourth.

campaigning this season are about to see the onslaught of antiprop 37 commercials. >> what is the main argument? why are they against it? >> in europe they have similar labeling requirements. the problem is with the car car law, which opponents acknowledge. the enforcement mechanism is lawsuits. these lawsuits could put small grocers out of business and are precise arguments against the regulation that's written by a plaintiffs' attorney and sort of a gift to attorneys. >> is this showing up in the polls? >> reporter: the antiprop 37 campaign has gone full speed since about ten days ago, raising about $35 million. poll numbers are down from 61% to 48%. most major newspapers are

he's at a college saying that he wrote legislation that would benefit college students who are immigrants. we have the clip here. >> we are also hear tag berman will be using this in his upcoming literature and campaign commercials. fact-checkers confirmed that berman was telling the truth, he is the coauthor of the dream act, the issue that sherman was taking issue with and calling him delusional and a liar. you couldn't hear it but that was what was being said. i thought, our debates never get that interesting.

northern california with showers as far south as crescent city. here we're worried about the fog throughout the morning and by the afternoon just a few clouds overhead, maybe a couple clouds overhead. i think this is probably the last night of this into tomorrow morning, then clearing things out. 77 san jose, 74 in hayward, east bay up to the 80s. as you get inside the bay, 74 with sunny skies this afternoon in oakland. about 81 in santa rosa. next couple days we warm those up, then offshore winds set up, clearing out skies out to the coastline, even 70s showing up. >> that would be nice. you'll likely notice you're about to head out to work.

this is a live look at the 101 near great america parkway. speeds are moving at the limit. if you're heading towards the bridges, we have a couple dense fog advisories in effect. it is not looking good right now on the bay bridge. we had an early morning fender bender and looks like they are cycling through the meter lights pretty slowly. maybe 20 minutes or so just to get on to the span, then a tight squeeze heading into san francisco. to the maps, all lanes open down the east shore freeway. unfortunately this is taking a while for things to recover. elsewhere, southbound 680, accident off to the right-hand shoulder. traffic and weather together every 10 minutes.
